Cherry Blossom - All Edible by Battledress Cherry Blossom - All Edible by Battledress
Remember that Cherry Blossom cake comp I posted ages ago?

Well, I finally got it finished. All edible.

Hand made silicone mold and armature for the wafer paper flowers and tree branch pieces.

Been working on the "porcelain glaze" for a while. Think I got something I can work with.

I had hoped to have this as a sample at ICES in San Diego this August, but the "glaze" won't hold up that long (it hazes as it dries out), so whatever goes to the trade show will have to be brand spank'n new.

The flowers travel fantastic. My black cake made it to Chicago and back surprisingly entact.

Its so beautiful :D oh and added to faves :) i was wondering, for a something like this what are the tools you use? are they specialist ones? or can you just make do with bits and bobs? because that's what i've been doing with my decorating but you get to a point where your average kitchen utensils just don't do the trick, no matter how creative you are with them, so..?

Thank you!

Yes, most of the tools used for making these flowers are specialty tools - for the Cherry cake, I made the molds and forms myself.

Hit the craft store and play with some of the basic sculpting tools.... and don't underestimate the average kitchen utensil.
The back of a spoon can be a wonderful flower petal form ;)

I don't think I could bring myself to eat something so amazing looking! The glaze is so unusual. I felt the same way to first time I saw edible silver balls. I am not very culinarily aware, am most definitely in awe of people who can make food look so beautiful.

Ok, I could eat it. It looks yummy.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, most of these decorations are not very tasty - even though they are "edible".
Most times, we peel off the fondant and go straight for the cake!

Thank you.

I still think that as a composition, this is a stronger image.

This project was horizontal and I favor the vertical....
