Well, I"m gonna present the last Zebra first. This little romp of a black light color and lighting exploration was tagged on to the end of a day of body paint that included experimental on-the-body prosthetic build up and texture exploration.
It all started when my husband both came across Zebra III by fellow deviant Nicoweb [link] who was gracious enough to allow a derivative work based in body paint.
As photographer Wynnsome [link] has already talked about on her journal, goals and ambitions kinda took on a life of their own. I suppose that is because when these "play with a purpose" projects come up, we each push ourselves both artistically and technically and go well past our collective comfort zones.
I'm no stranger to animal patterns in my work but painting critters just hasn't been something I was particularly excited about. Exceptions being the body paint work featured this week (10-14-08) on The Janice Dickenson Modeling Agency for photographer Justin Monroe. And now this elegant Zebra that we could all see as a figure study.
When these "play with a purpose" ideas come up, they tend to fall into place quickly with short notice as we have to just take advantage of the opportunity as it evolves. It is for this exact reason that model friend Michal Foster is called. He's a great model, a great human being and lives like 2 miles away. And he puts up with us!
Of course, these experiments sometimes work out quite nicely. The last time we "experimented" on Michael to this extent it was an anatomy test that later ended up as an ad in Makeup Artists Magazine.
So, I hope you all enjoy the "fun" version of our study. More from this shoot will be posted soon.
