Acorn Lampwork Practice Bead by Battledress Acorn Lampwork Practice Bead by Battledress

Lemons and all that jazz.

Deadlines, Retainer Accounts (aka Lack of Planning blah, blah, blah paid to be an emergency on my part) and Obligations have kept me from bead making for about 3 weeks.

Turns out I've really missed melting glass with fire. Not that I'm any good at it yet, but my "ooh... I could make that in..." has pretty much shifted to glass these days.

So I'm rusty at my barely learned skill. Had enough presence of mind to warm up by making spacer beads with new colors that have been patiently taunting me. (Effetre/Moretti) Found myself trying to decide if I've just learned to pay better attention to the flame or if my propane is dirty - or quite probably both.

I had a goal for today. Make blue bird eggs with flecks of brown using a brass press. Started out great. Flame had no yellow and test beads came out well despite getting my bearings again.

Then things went sideways. I watched every shade of turquoise, baby blue, blue green and marine green reduce in the flame. Could NOT get the yellow adjusted out of my flame. (Hothead). Finished one egg and KNEW it would have the terracotta red reduction streak. Maybe it will come off with etching.

Really. Frustrated.

Forced myself to go sideways. Work with colors I know wouldn't reduce but just wasn't into making brown eggs. Tried out some sculptural blah blah practice dots blah blah acorn.

So, there you go.

Thank you!

I have to be careful with the stems - or they're easy to break off.

yep. I know some other people who would probably love to have them too. So depending on how much of a bitch they are to make and paying a fair cost, it'd be fun to buy a bunch and pass them out.

I've just been making solid beads.
Don't have the set up for more than that.

It was very intimidating at the start.... but it's worth the journey!
